Airlines admit to price-fixing cargo charges in US only
But an admission of guilt in the US is unlikely to result in airlines doing the same in Australia, as seen by the recent Korean Airlines court challenge over ACCC demands that it hand over information. Qantas is yet to plead its guilt to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, though for months it has hinted it is willing to agree to a settlement. Cathay Pacific also played down any suggestions that it broke the law elsewhere. “Unfortunately, in this instance, it transpired that some of our actions relating to shipments from Hong Kong to the United States were in conflict with United States antitrust laws, and we very much regret this,” the airline’s chief executive, Tony Tyler said.
