Is Exercising While Pregnant Beneficial?

Exercise during pregnancy, is it good for you? In the past women were told never to exercise when pregnant because it could harm the baby. Things have really changed. Today moderate to light exercise is encouraged and believed to be good for both you and your baby. They will have to be modified to suit your stage of pregnancy and there are certain exercises that you need to stay away from while pregnant. Talk to your health care provided and let them help you determine which exercises can benefit you the most during your pregnancy. Only they know your overall health issues and can advise you the best accordingly.

One reason you should exercise when pregnant is because it is healthier for both you and the baby. It will keep your strength built up and help you to stay more active when pregnant and after your baby is born. It can make labor and the delivery of our baby easier and less painful. Most exercises include learning breathing techniques which can also make a big difference when you are in labor. When you exercise the blood flow is increased throughout your whole body. This gives your skin a healthy glow and it will help to reduce swelling in your feet and ankles. It will also make it easier to get your previous body back after having the baby as well, which is very important for most women.

It will help to improve your posture and relieve the back pain that many women feel during this time. Most women feel a lot of anxiety and stress when they are pregnant and exercise can help to reduce these as well. Just remember that if you start to feel dizzy, nausea or tired when exercising its time to stop. Always stop immediately and consult your physician if you feel any pain or discomfort in your back or pelvis or if breathing becomes difficult. Never do exercises that require you to bounce, leap or twist at the abdomen. Exercises with sudden changes in direction should also be avoided as all of these can cause injury to you or your baby.

If you have already been exercising before you were pregnant your physician can help you change your routine to fit your needs now. If you were not exercising before he may be able to give you some advice on how to get started with a light exercise routine. Your overall health and fitness will determine what you can and cannot do while you are pregnant with your baby. This is why it is so important that you consult your physician before exercising and that you keep him completely informed of how you feel during this time. The health and safety of you and your baby is the number one concern.
