Conflict as a Driving Force in Fiction
Most people will go to incredible lengths to avoid any type of conflict. It can take a real crisis to shift us out of our comfort zones. But this is exactly where fiction has to go if it is to have readers clawing at the paper to turn the next page.
However, introducing conflict into your plots is not enough on its own. You can’t string conflict after conflict and hope to produce a great story. The sequence needs to be bound together, otherwise you’ll find yourself committing one of the classic blunders in plot-writing - the ’serial conflict.’
