PDF is especially desirable when a document includes design elements since fonts can be embedded. Otherwise, if a document is created in Word but the end user does not have Word installed on their system, or worse, they don’t have the same fonts, upon opening the document on their end, they may find it completely scrambled with strange icons and characters not intended by the creator of the document. These problems can be avoided if you take the extra couple of minutes needed to create a pdf.

I’ve tried Word perfect, Microsoft Word, 2003 Microsoft Office, and several others over the years. I’ve used notepad, word pad, and all of the other junk usually included with windows. Give me Open Office any day.
You may not have heard about Open Office. The best thing about it is that it’s free. That’s right, free, unlike 2003 microsoft office.
And this isn’t just any old junk thrown together by computer students in their spare time. It’s made by Sun Microsystems, one of the leading companies in the computer industry.
